The (Apple) Core: The Principia Discordia
First I must sprinkle you with fairy dust…
It started as an idea, as all human endeavour does, though this was no ordinary idea. No. This one was so potent that it birthed a movement: the Discordian Society and, at its heart, the Principia Discordia. This cult classic first appeared in the mid sixties; the work of two young Californians, Kerry Thornley and his friend Greg Hill, later known by their Discordian names: Lord Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst and Malaclypse the Younger.
“If you can master nonsense as well as you have already learned to master sense, then each will expose the other for what it is: absurdity. From that moment of illumination, a man begins to be free regardless of his surrounding.”
The story of how Discordianism came to be is known as THE REVELATION and is contained, along with many other insights, in the pages of this silly little book. If you’ve never read it we recommend you do so immediately.
Once supposedly impossible to find, the Principia can now be read online, or better still you can buy a copy – ideally from an outlet which pays its taxes!
“In 1965 the Discordia came alive, its principles captured in words
Inspired by a vision and a visit from Eris, it set out to achieve the absurd
To find peace in the chaos, using humour and derision
It birthed a new movement off the back of a religion
The religion was a joke, as all religions are
But if you absorb the Principia you’re sure to go far”
